The study "Retrospective exploratory study of smoking status and e-cigarette use with response to non-surgical periodontal therapy" examines the impact of smoking and e-cigarette use on the efficacy of non-surgical periodontal treatment.

It focuses on 220 patients divided into groups based on their smoking status: non-smokers, former smokers, current smokers, and exclusive e-cigarette users. The findings indicate that e-cigarette users experienced a less favourable response to treatment, similar to current smokers, compared to non-smokers and former smokers.

This highlights the potential negative impact of e-cigarettes on periodontal health, aligning their treatment outcomes more closely with those of traditional smokers than with non-smokers.

At EOPerio we have observed similar trends, which are substantiated by this research indicating that e-cigarette users tend to respond to periodontal treatment in a manner comparable to traditional smokers rather than non-smokers.

This finding underscores the need for further research to fully understand the implications of e-cigarette use on periodontal disease outcomes.
